In this decluttering series, we will declutter our closet, specifically leggings. Have you ever look through your entire inventory of clothes? It’s easy to lose track of the clothes you buy, as well as the old ones you don’t clear out. Next thing you know, clothes overflow your drawers and the rack filled with hangers. It’s important to be in control and mindful of your belongings.
A category that I (Nancy) tackled recently is going through my leggings drawer. I didn’t realize how many leggings accumulated over the years. I kept trying different leggings from different brands. Eventually, I found a type I enjoyed (see Lululemon below), which comes at a cost. As long as the comfort and quality check all boxes, it’s worth the money. Here are some brands worth mentioning:
It took me a while to work my way through the leggings world. Spending a lot of money on leggings may not be some people’s cup of tea, and that’s completely fine. There leggings that fit all types of budgets. It’s not about getting rid of all of your clothes – it’s about seeing what’s still appropriate for you and awareness.
After going through all of my leggings, I found a few end-of-life pairs. Typically, if your unwanted clothes are still in wearable condition, you can give them a second chance through donation or resell. I try to wear out my clothes, even if it’s for lounging around.
Now that I’m finished with going through unwanted leggings, I’ll tackle the next category: knitwear. They can go through easy wear and tear through repeated use (even more with improper care). They’re great to wear during the cold, but need to be stowed away properly during off-seasons.
What are your favorite types of leggings (or clothes)? Do you plan to declutter your closet?
I spent some time over the holiday break to declutter my closet, and took out some clothes that I felt I’ve outgrown. Rather than feeling bummed about it, I felt the opposite; I now would rather have a few clothing pieces I truly love and I know I’ll wear over and over, instead of having lots of clothes and having decision fatigue due to not knowing which piece to wear! I also like leggings. Last year, my sister bought me leggings from Under Armour, and I love them. I also tried out local brands, to support small businesses. I felt it was my way to help the economy, and at the same time have quality pieces. Thanks for sharing with us, have a great weekend ahead!

Yay for decluttering! I’ve always found it helpful starting the New Year off fresh by going through old clutter. Great idea and great post!
Depending on your clothing loves, unexpected things can pile up! For me, it is skirts and dresses. I love sleek skirts, slim skirts, and flamboyant skirts and my dresses are usually extensions of the same style. However, often I never wear a piece I have picked up and, during my yearly declutter, being honest with myself really helps me down-size and make room for me to wear things more often as well as maybe find a new item I will wear often.
Love that you shared your decluttering thoughts and even purged a few things!
Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I have my eyes on Lulu’s!! I haven’t tried them yet so am a little hesitant. However, I’ve ALWAYS felt that it’s better to buy something that is better quality, you love the fit and is going to last way longer than the likes of Primark. I need to have a clear out of my clothes, I literally rotate the same things all the time yet accumulate loads things in my wardrobe that I stop wearing.

I really need to declutter my closet!

I just had a clear out last week and it was amazing some of the stuff I found that I hadn’t worn in years! T-shirt’s is my big one, I’m terrible for buying silly tshirts that realistically I’ll never wear! I understand the leggings hype though, I practically live out mine!
Oh, decluttering your clothing is a task, isn’t it? I am putting off mine, but maybe I should just do it!
I don’t own many leggings (about 3 pairs) but they rarely get worn at the moment!
Thanks for sharing!

I love having a wardrobe clear out, it’s always so therapeutic! It’s a great way to start the year too xx
Thanks for sharing this – I am in much need of inspiration to revisit my own closet! I gave it a good clear out at the beginning of quarantine but there’s just so many things that I’ve forgotten about and neglected, and it’s made even more tricky to know what to keep as we’re barely leaving the house(!) 2021 will be the year of the declutter for me! (Hopefully haha)

Oh this is interesting.
My husband always swears by under armour. I prefer Adidas or Nike but lately I purchased really cheap legging because the Adidas I bought get damaged in just few years so I thought a cheap one will work just as good.
Thanks you for sharing all theses cool brands. Next time I need new leggings I’ll look to them.

I love a pair of gym leggings! Not only are they great to work out in, but they’re so comfortable to just chill out in!

Great post! I am awful at decluttering my wardrobe- I always say “well maybe I’ll wear that one day” and it drives my mum crazy haha 🙂 thank you for sharing these tips, I love leggings from H&M as they’re simple and comfortable x
Like you, I’m a big fan of high rise for my body type and although Lululemon is more expensive I’ve come to learn that sometimes it’s about quality vs quantity. Great post! Thanks for sharing.
This is a reminder for me to actually declutter my closet. I’ve done some but I need to make sure I actually get organized about it! Thanks for sharing!
I don’t wear leggings but I have sooooooo many end of life tops hiding in my wardrobe. I’m part way through a book unhaul but my clothes are next on my list! x
I definitely need to declutter my closet and my leggings would be a great place for me to start. Thanks for sharing!
Great post Nancy! Surprisingly, a few years ago, I worked for a seasonal PJ store and we got to wear PJs as our uniform. I got invited to a last-minute gathering that started right after work and I didn’t have anything to wear. I didn’t really want to wear my pjs and if I went home, I’d be super late! I ran into Walmart and grabbed a pair of leggings and a basic tee and the leggings have been my favourite ever since! They are thick and not see-through and only cost me $5! I’ve since got rid of all my thin leggings and will be stopping by Walmart soon. Thanks for sharing x

I recently have started going through my drawers and found so much stuff that I had thrown in to get out of the way. Slowly working through it, but it will take time.
Oh, and I have only two pairs of leggings, both cheap, but they make me happy 😊

I hate building up the motivation to declutter my wardrobe but it always feels SO good afterwards! It literally feels like a weight lifted off your shoulder haha. You go girl xx
I love Lululemon’s rash guards, I have about 4 different types so I don’t doubt that their leggings would be good too. Thanks for the brand recommendations, I’ll be looking into them when I purchase any new workout clothes!
Isn’t it surprising how fast stuff accumulates? I try to donate or giveaway any clothing article I have not worn for at least 2-3 years. That covers most items. But it’s really smart to do what you did, and to evaluate if the clothing item still even works or makes sense.
I don’t have a collection of leggings – I have 2 pairs I used to wear to physio appointments and I don’t need more as I don’t go to the gym or formally workout – running around with the kids is my exercise, haha! 🙂 I agree it’s important to go through and declutter your wardrobe regularly but I’m so bad at doing it, I need to try be more consistent!
Hope that your week is off to a good start 🙂 A public holiday here today which is nice, we will go for a picnic 🙂
I’m actually really thankful for this post this week. I’m so fussy with my leggings, it takes me forever to find ones that I truly love but a few of my favourites have been discontinued and mine are nearing that dreaded end of life phase, so I’ve been on the hunt again lately.
My style is fairly monochrome which means I tend not to buy things that I regret not too much longer down the line, so I don’t typically need to clear out that often, but I have a look over everything 2-3 times a year, and see if anything needs throwing out/ replacing or can be sent to charity x
Decluttering the closet is always such a satisfying feeling! It is so nice to look back in the closet and see pieces you actually like and wear. I have heard such good things about Lululemon, but I haven’t had a chance to try it out myself. I need to try their leggings! Leggings can get so expensive, but I honestly think a nice pair is worth the money because sometimes cheap leggings are really uncomfortable. I hope you are having a good start to your week!

A great post, I do find that de-cluttering is important. Give away things you don’t need to someone who may love cherished items more, or, you can turn old outfits into something brand new!

I don’t wear leggings so much but thanks for recommending.
Summer dresses are my favourite.
I think this is the Universe’s way of telling me that I need to declutter my closet. I have a few leggings I keep on rotation, but I need to say goodbye to a few. On a side note, I totally relate with avoiding expensive things but realizing I may have a crush instead, haha x
I love a declutter! I recently organised all of my drawers and clothing racks and it’s made such a huge difference to my space. Leggings are so easy to accumulate over the years – I think it’s because a lot of the time they all look exactly the same in your drawer so you don’t really realise just how many you have until you go through them all x

Decluttering my closet is something I really need to do. I have a lot of clothes from years back that I no longer wear but haven’t gotten rid of.
Decluttering is so essential but boy is it so difficult to start! Happy to see you were able to accomplish it successfully for your own closet!
