Last month, we announced that we opened our shop, xMdrn on Etsy. We’ve received so much support and are thankful for all of the shares, feedback, and purchases! Over the last few weeks, we’ve faced so many experiences with running the shop and would love to share the initial ones with you.
If you’ve been wanting to launch a business for a while or have the urge to make some life-changing moves, go for it. What are you waiting for? What is the opportunity cost of starting now versus starting later? There is always a risk associated with any actions you take, it is whether you have the appetite for its consequence if things were to go wrong. However, you can’t reap the rewards if you don’t try. If you needed a sign to take that leap of faith, this is it.
Getting an order is exciting – packing one is even more exciting. From prior experience, getting some freebies is always a good feeling. You’re not just selling a product, you want to also sell the experience of someone opening their package to get to your product. The more it becomes a journey, the better. There are a few people who might think all of the extra experience is unnecessary – don’t let that stop you.
The moment you fall behind in record-keeping, it becomes a challenge to catch up. New expenses are now in the ever-growing backlog. You need to be on top of your paperwork, especially if you’re going to register your small business. We use an Excel sheet to keep track of all expenses, as well as have physical and logical folders to safe keep the receipts. As far as taxes go, we definitely need to do some research and potentially seek professional advice on income reporting in the future.
From time to time, you won’t have any sales. Don’t treat it as the end of the world. A lot of businesses that start out, in the beginning, go through the same. The key is to be persistent and not give up. Keep trying to innovate and create new products if you feel the inspiration. Don’t be let down by the quiet activity. However, there are actions to be made (see next section).
With so many different social media platforms, the world can be your oyster when it comes to marketing your shop. Knowing how to maximize SEO in any app will take you far. Nancy started posting some clips of the stickers on her TikTok and had a good amount of views. One day, a post might go viral – keep pushing out content! Mario even reached out to one of our favorite Call of Duty: Warzone streamers to potentially get a shoutout. Also, big hugs to friends who like, share, or even make a purchase. We never expect friends to make purchases at all. It is always nice when it happens though!
Initially, we thought we would only sell two stickers for a while. Over the past few weeks, we found some inspiration to create more stickers. This allows us to further diversify our shop when it comes to themes but stick to a niche (stickers, get it?). Since last week’s update, we added two new listings. For you Call of Duty: Warzone lovers, you can’t go wrong with Ghost (character) parachuting down to loot the area. Also, how can you say no to a Warzone victory? We have two more stickers in the works and we’re excited to share them with you!
Have you launched your business lately? If so, share them with us! If not, what are your desires?
